The home of the Secret Library concerts is the ELTE University Library and Archives, which was awarded the Hungarian Heritage Prize in 2018. The building on Ferenciek Square dates back to 1561, and today its walls safeguard nearly 2 million documents, preserving the treasures of knowledge and culture. Among them are more than 1,000 incunabula and 185 handwritten codices – in Latin, Hungarian, Italian, Slavic, and Arabic – each like a secret spellbook waiting to be discovered.
At the heart of the library lies the Great Reading Hall, with gilded columns and a ceiling soaring nearly 15 meters high. The candlelit walls, towering shelves, and dark wooden furnishings open the gates to a secret, enchanted realm.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a cloakroom on site?
The library does not have an official cloakroom, however, there are a limited number of hangers and lockers available for our guests to use. Please do not leave your valuables in these, as we cannot be held responsible. For a hassle-free experience, we recommend that you place your coat on your chair. 🕯️🎻
Can I bring food or drinks with me?
Food and drinks are not allowed inside the library. However, there are a wide range of cafes and restaurants near the venue that will welcome guests before and after the concert.
Where is the entry from?
Entry is through the main entrance of the library. Please follow the signs posted on site and the instructions of the staff.
